Our new alternative to mealworms are our nutritious and delicious Caliworms. They are the larvae of the black solider fly and as their name suggests these worms are a great source of calcium. Although they are slightly lower in protein to mealworms they are much higher in fat and calories and have a perfect calcium to phosphorous ratio of 2:1. This means they are perfect for the development of strong bones and eggs in all insectivore vertebrates including our garden birds and hedgehogs!
These worms can we soaked in water which increases their volume making them a moist treat for the birds. They can be fed on their own, or mixed with other Eyebrook feeds
