Our traditional hedgerow friends are moving
to Rectory Farm! The University of London
are carrying out research in the decline of
hedgehog populations in Britain, Rectory Farm is
aiding the study by providing a habitat in which
two male hedgehogs will be released complete
with tracking devices to watch their progress.
The decline in hedgehog numbers has been
apparent over a number of years, it is hoped
that through helping in this study we can find
reasons for the decline and try to reverse it.
What a wonderful opportunity for the farm to
help in this study and become the host to two
hedgehogs - lets hope they can find some ladies!
We will keep you updated on their progress.

At the beginning of
March, South Leicester Bird Watching Group put
twenty bird boxes up in the conservation areas
at Rectory Farm to encourage a range of birds to
nest here, in particular sparrows. The
group had both a very productive and enjoyable
day, and our feathered friends are already using
some of the new nest boxes which is a great
achievement. The conservation areas are in
the form of wooded spinney's which were created
in the late eighties to encourage wildlife onto
the farm, these provide an ideal nesting habitat
for the birds. South Leicester Bird
Watchers will be monitoring the boxes and
different species of farmland birds, we will
keep you posted on the success of the project.
